JulES Bradley

I'm always trying and learning new things and this page is a place to share a few. The thing I love the most about my career is that it's a twisty path that will always take me in new directions and make it impossible to stop learning.
(And I thrive on being bad at things)

Documentary Film
Though audio storytelling has my heart, I've been recently branching into documentary film. Recently, I was deeply influenced by a few feature documentary films like Sugarcane and Geographies of Solitude, both of which have inspired me to branch into filmmaking. I'm currently in post production for my first documentary short. I'm using this project to learn the nitty gritty of every step of documentary film production. I've shot the film (in 0 degree weather and 30 m/h winds), and I'm currently learning to edit and color correct in Davinci. So far it's felt like a natural transition and addition to my audio documentary work. Stay tuned!

Music Composition
Because of my love of sound design and experimental audio, I've been slowing learning to compose score for podcasts and radio. I've scored some of my personal works and have been learning music composition with Ableton. I'm a fiddler in my personal life and my playful, improvisation, communal musical practice has been influencing my interest in digital music composition. Currently, I'm having a lot of fun making bad house beats on Ableton while I'm learning the basics. My ultimate goal is to score more own works (ie. my short film) and collaborate on other's projects. For now, I'm having fun pretending to be a teenage bedroom producer.

Sound for Film
I've begun expanding my audio production skills into the filmmaking space, documentary and narrative. I'm most excited about leaning into post-production work with sound design and music composition for films, but am also learning the specifics of sound recording for films. I did already blow out one lav by giving it phantom power, but I'm learning! I'd love to do sound on other's doc film projects and keep gaining experience.

Visual Art
I have always had some semblance of a visual art practice and have worked in a variety of mediums. Most recently, I've been making mono-chromatic linocut prints. I only use blue ink, for no particular reason. Similar to my storytelling work, I often make art centering the mundane. But my visual art tends to lean more whimsical than my other works (eg. a rooster with books, a multi-instrumentalist bug that is now my personal tag). I also really love acrylic painting, collaging, and adding artwork and detail to clothing.
